Oil paint / Watercolor / Screen-printing

  • Karen Janko is a retired college educator, serving in many roles, including the Dean of Academic Affairs at The Illinois Institute of Art, Chicago, Program Chair and undergrad instructor for art and business classes.  Her formal education includes a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership for higher education from Argosy University, a master’s in business administration from Purdue University, and a Bachelor of Art in Studio Arts from the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Karen works in several mediums including oils, watercolor and screen-prints. Her artwork focuses on issues in our society. “Denial” is a series of ten oil paintings that express the distance often felt in relationships. This series projects the feeling of disconnect or alienation felt from the lack of acceptance by others.

A series of screen prints on canvas tells the struggles of many women in our culture. Karen believes artwork should stimulate thought and allow each viewer to find their own personal meaning in it.

Karen moved to Avon 3 years ago after 37 years in Crown Point Indiana, with her husband, two dogs and a parrot.
